DesAIR aims to develop new high performance composite solutions for Aircraft interiors, integrating natural materials and developing specific manufacturing processes. The desAIR solutions have a wide range of applications such as galleys, monuments, floor and side panels.

The solutions currently used, such as reinforcement fibers with a thermosetting polymeric matrix have several problems in terms of sustainability. A coherent and systematic scientific approach was followed to obtain a sustainable solution based on the use of a 100% natural, renewable and recyclable material – cork –as a core material. The solution is an all-in-one product providing thermal, acoustical and vibration insulation, water resistance and recyclability. The material integration and manufacturing processes are showcased in a Business Jet galley concept demonstrator.
