The international Robotcub project goal is the conception of a humanoid, a juvenile robot, able to learn with and like children. IST team task was to build the robot head with its eyes (vídeo cameras), hears (microphones), neck movements, and so forth. Alma design’s task was to design the external head format and to cover the whole technology providing the robot a friendly and humanized look, a “cartoon cool” concept. Because of the shape and size demands, the parts were built under rapid prototyping, obtaining transparent surfaces which were attached to LEDS systems in order to match skin colour and the different mimical expressions. Almadesign also collaborated in the concept development of the remaining physiognomic features.
