The FERROVIA 4.0 project aims to address the technological and market challenges that the global railway sector has faced, stimulating a collective action that mobilizes around a wide range of companies and entities of the R&I System that are part of the Portuguese Railway Platform Cluster, in carrying out innovative industrial research activities that enhance experimental development and the demonstration of new solutions capable of promoting greater operational capacity, sustainability and competitiveness to railway systems.

 

The project's overall objective is to develop different components, tools and systems, to be tested on real rolling stock and infrastructure, which are oriented towards the economic and ecological sustainability of the railway system, to reduce operating and maintenance costs; for reliable information systems to support decision-making in asset management and for the creation of security systems capable of monitoring the infrastructure and triggering alerts and protection/intervention measures.
